The Firefly...Ode to a year

Have you seen a Firefly,
That treads on Earth, yet glows in sky?
It is a star that once fell from heaven
Cursed to glow on a land way more bright.

Under the moon and under your eyes,
The great grass forest burns in its light.
In the fiery trance that stands
This land of men seems like a dandelion.

But alas the night lasts not long,
And is indifferent to laughs of dawn.
The one that cries is the little bird
When it knows the fate of the stars born before this morn.

And thus is dear, the tale sung in every song,
A new fire was born last dawn-
To warm the eve
And perish as the night was torn.
